Kindergarten registration set
COVINGTON — Covington Elementary will be holding its annual kindergarten registration and screening on April 6 and 7 from 8-11 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m.
Any child who will be 5 before Aug. 1, 2016, is eligible to attend kindergarten. All parents of kindergarten age children are asked to call the elementary office at 473-2252 for a registration/screening appointment. To register your child(ren), it is necessary for parents to bring their child’s certified birth certificate, record of immunizations, Social Security number and custodial papers (if applicable).
TROY — The Troy Historical Society will present the documentary film “The 1913 Flood Shadow Over the Miami Valley” at its meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 17 at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, 301 W. Main St., Troy.
This film tells what happened during the March 1913 flood in the geographic area from Piqua to Hamilton. It was created and produced by Sam Ashworth of Middletown in 2013 for the 100th anniversary of the flood with a grant from the Middletown Community Foundation. Both the Troy-Miami County Public Library Local History Library and The Troy Historical Society provided research assistance in the making of the film.
The meeting is free and open to the public.

FFA Members of month named
CASSTOWN — The March 2016 Miami East-MVCTC FFA Members of the Month are Tyler Bashore and Zac Gordon. Both Bashore and Gordon are sophomores are at Miami East High School and second year members of the FFA Chapter.
Bashore is the son of Chris and Mendy Bashore of Fletcher. Gordon is the son of James and Shelly Gordon of Piqua.
Bashore recently competed in the District Agricultural Power Diagnostics Career Development Event where he helped the team place twelfth. Tyler also participates in weekly tutoring at Miami East Elementary where he helps with reading in Mrs. Carmen Richters first grade classroom. Tyler’s Supervised Agriculture Experience Program consists of job placement at Lost Creek Repair where he assists with repair and maintenance of farm and lawn equipment.
Gordon is a State FFA Proficiency Finalist (Top 4 in the State) in the area of Turf Grass Management. Zach has job placement at mGz Lawn and Grounds Care and operates his own business of mowing grass and snow removal at Zac Gordon’s Grounds Care. He will now be interviewed at the State FFA Convention in May. Also, Zac was a key member of the Public Relations Committee that planned FFA Week at Miami East High School.
Every month of the school year the Miami East FFA will select a student to be the FFA Member of the Month. The officer team will nominate one student that has been actively involved in the FFA chapter, school and community activities. If selected, the member will be recognized at the monthly FFA meeting, have their picture displayed in the Miami East Agricultural Education Classroom, and will receive a special memento on celebration of their accomplishment.
