FFA Members of the Month named

CASSTOWN — The April 2016 Miami East-MVCTC FFA Members of the Month are Hannah Wilson and Daniel Everett. Wilson is the daughter of Brady and Sena Wilson of Troy. Everett is the son of Mark and Julie Everett of Fletcher. Both are seniors and four year members of the FFA Chapter.

Wilson is a State FFA Top 4 Proficiency Finalist in the area of Specialty Crop for her Supervised Agricultural Experience of raising and marketing mums. Hannah will also earn the State FFA Degree at the 2016 State FFA Convention. Hannah has participated in the Food Science Career Development Event and Farm Day for Miami East second graders.

Everett is earning the State FFA Degree at the 2016 State FFA Convention where he, too, will be a member of the State FFA Choir for the fourth year in a row. Daniel’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program consists of job placement at Williams Show Horses. He has attended FFA Camp for three years and fruit sales.

Every month of the school year the Miami East FFA will select a student to be the FFA Member of the Month. The officer team will nominate one student that has been actively involved in the FFA chapter, school and community activities. If selected, the member will be recognized at the monthly FFA meeting, have their picture displayed in the Miami East Agricultural Education Classroom, and will receive a special memento on celebration of their accomplishment.

Tickets available for evening with Twain

PIQUA — Tickets are still available for an evening with one of America’s most treasured humorists, whose observations are as true today as they were during Mark Twain’s life.

The Johnston Farm Friends Council will bring scholar/actor Warren Brown to the Fort Piqua Plaza on Thursday, April 21 for an evening of food, music and humor, with “An Evening with Mark Twain.”

Reservations are $35 or $30 for members of the Friends Council and the Ohio History Connection. Call 773-2522 by April 11 to save your spot for what promises to be an entertaining evening.

Fourth garden program offered

TROY — The fourth session in the Coffee with the Master Gardener Series being offered by OSU Extension Miami County Master Gardeners will take place at 10 a.m. May 6.

This series is geared towards backyard gardeners and horticulture enthusiasts alike. May’s session will cover roses, fertilizing, care, maintenance, and pest and disease management. The session will be taught by Bob Iiames, a local floriculturist with many years of experience and expertise.

The session will be held at the First Baptist Church in Troy at 53 S. Norwich Road and will run from 10-11:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required for refreshments, handouts and space. The cost is $10 per person. Registration deadline is April 29. Make checks payable to OSU Extension. You may mail form and payment to OSU Extension, 201 W.
