Ryan receives nomination

COVINGTON — Coleman Ryan, a Covington High School senior, has been nominated by Ohio 4th District Congressman Jim Jordan for the United State Naval Academy.

Ryan, of Russia, will compete for an appointment for the class entering the summer of 2016.

He is the son of Rob and Shannon Ryan.

RTR to host ‘glitzy’ affair

PIQUA — Raise the Roof for the Arts of Sidney will host “Puttin’ on the Glitz,” a champagne luncheon and fashion show, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at the Piqua Country Club.

“Puttin’ on the Glitz” will be an afternoon of fashions modeled by local celebrities sporting ensembles from Allison’s Custom Jewelry, Nitza’s of Lima and Bloom Fashions of Vandalia. Community leaders will be suited up to serve champagne from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by a lunch created by Chef Keith Taylor of Piqua County Club. Complementing the fashions will be an array of raffles from local supporting businesses during the event.

Paid reservations are $35, open to the public beginning Friday, March 25. To place a reservation, visit or by stop by the RTR office in Sidney at 126½ E. Poplar St., second floor.

Proceeds from “Puttin’ on the Glitz” will be used to support the current revitalization of the Historic Sidney Theatre.

Covington Elementary closing

COVINGTON — A celebration of the closing of Covington Elementary School will be held on Sunday, April 17. A reception for former and current Covington Elementary School employees will be held in the CES Gymnasium from 1-2 p.m.

Following that reception, an Open House for the public is scheduled from 2-4 p.m. Classrooms will be open for your memories of experiences in the elementary building. In the gymnasium will tables of interest featuring yearbooks, Cat’s Meow replicas of all three buildings for purchase, T-shirts to order, various pictures of school events, the new K-8 building and refreshments.

If anyone has memorabilia regarding Covington Elementary School and would like to share with those attending the Open House, please drop off to the school by April 13. Be sure all items have your name on them.

Upcoming ramp closure

MIAMI COUNTY — The I-75 south ramp to County Road 25-A near Troy will have a 24-hour closure March 21 to Oct. 28. The official detour is I-75 south to State Route 41 to I-75 north to County Road 25-A.
