MIAMI COUNTY — A Troy man has been charged with 26 counts of felony rape, allegedly violating two female victims under the age of 12 since March 2015.

On Wednesday morning, Benjie Van Winkle, 42, of Troy, was arraigned in Miami County Municipal Court on the 26 counts of first-degree felony rape charges.

According to Miami County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dave Duchak, the sheriff’s office detectives also assisted in the investigation. Eight of the counts of the alleged sexual assault are believed to have occurred outside of Fletcher in Brown Township.

According to reports, the victims were also sexually violated in Troy and possibly in Champaign County. According to reports, Van Winkle confessed to the allegations during the initial interview with authorities.

He remains incarcerated at the Miami County Jail with a $2.6 million bond.

A preliminary hearing was set for Feb. 16 with Judge Gary Nasal presiding.
