Information provided by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office:
ASSIST SQUAD: A deputy responded to the 5700 block of Wheelock Road in Union Township in reference an assist squad. A 65-year-old male having a possible heart attack. Deputies approached the front door of the residence, where we were met by, the wife of the male subject having heart problems.
She stated that anyone from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office was not allowed in the residence. A deputy advised her that in order for the medical squad to come into the house, that we had to enter the house and deem it safe.
The heart attack victim then stated the anyone from the sheriff’s office was not allowed in the residence, and that he would go outside and meet the squad in the driveway. He walked out of the residence and stated that he was being harassed by the sheriff’s office. He further stated that when he is out of the hospital he will contact his attorney and advise them of the harassment. The male was transported by the Union Township Medic for medical treatment.
DUS: A deputy was patrolling the area of Iddings Road south of State Route 571 due to recent complaints of suspicious persons in the area. The deputy observed a white Jeep parked in a pull off leading to a corn field. The area the vehicle was parked was near the residence of a resident who had complained about the suspicious person and vehicle.
Upon contact with the driver he identified himself as David Poland. Poland provided an Ohio identification card. Poland stated that he was in the area just driving around as he always does.
The deputy discovered he currently has 20 active failure to reinstates and one license suspension for being a habitual alcohol abuser. Poland was cited for DUS and released to a licensed driver.
DRUGS: A deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding at State Route 41 in Elizabeth Township. During the investigation of the traffic stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted. The search resulted in a seizure of marijuana, marijuana drug paraphernalia, and a white crystal substance believed to be cocaine.
BAD CHECK: A Mr. Graham reported that his business, Heigel Electric, had received a bad check in the amount of $321.75 from David C. Caroppoli. The check was sent back to them from the bank informing them that it was a closed account. Graham reported that he had received information from a Dayton Police Department officer that Caroppoli is currently incarcerated in the Montgomery County Jail on similar charges in their county. The deputy ran Caroppoli through LEADS and found that he also has additional charges/warrant for passing bad checks through other counties. Charges for passing bad checks will be sent to Municipal Court on Caroppoli with a warrant request for this incident.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT: Deputies were dispatched to the area of Rich Gas Station in Bradford, on the report of a suspicious priority. Dispatch advised a caller seen a male wearing a gray hoodie at the gas station that was closed.
Officials located the male at the corner of School Street and North High Street in Bradford. The male was highly intoxicated and would not speak with officers much. He said he wanted to go to jail because they have three meals and cable. The deputies asked again where he lived and what his name was. He again refused. He bent down and spit on the tire of the sheriff’s cruiser and asked if that was assault and if he will go to jail. At this time, the deputy placed the male in cuffs and into the back seat of the cruiser. Due to his lack of cooperation, the deputy arrested him for disorderly conduct and obstructing official business.
Cory Phillips, 30, of Bradford, was booked into the Miami County Jail for disorderly conduct and obstructing official business.
BEER STOLEN: A reporting party stated someone forced entry into a locked tack room at the Miami County Fairgrounds and stole his beer.
TRAILER STOLEN: A deputy responded to the 5200 block of Iddings Road, in Union Township, in reference a stolen trailer.The owner stated that his trailer was stolen sometime during the night. He also stated no one had permission to use the trailer. The trailer is a 2005 Black 20 foot Homemade Trailer.
OVI: A deputy observed the listed vehicle turning from West Water Street to North Market Srtreet, Troy. The stop light had turned red as the vehicle traveled through the intersection. The deputy stopped the vehicle for the red light violation. After further investigation, the driver, James Holzen, 23, of Tipp City, was arrested for OVI and violation of traffic signal. The driver was cited and released.
GUNS GONE: A deputy responded to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office to speak with a citizen. The reporting party stated he had several hunting items stolen from a residence on South State Route 202 in Staunton Township, Miami County.
NO COMPOSTING IN THE PARK: A deputy was dispatched to a suspicious activity at the Stillwater Prairie Reserve in Newberry Township, Miami County. A male was discovered practicing composting. The male was given a warning for littering. He was asked to clean up the site and leave the park.
ACCIDENT: A deputy was dispatched to State Route 571 and State Route 201, Tipp City, for a two-vehicle with injury crash. The driver of the Volkswagen van was a single occupant. She was incoherent and taken to Miami Valley Medical Center by Bethel squad.
