MIAMI COUNTY — The Board of Miami County Commissioners approved signage for the Dog Recreation and Socialization Pavilion at the Miami County Animal Shelter during its meeting on Thursday.

The commissioners accepted a quote from Kessler Sign Company of Dayton to provide and install signage for the Dog Recreation and Socialization Pavilion at a cost not to exceed $3,102.50. The panels on the signage will have county-approved graphics, along with the title “Dog Recreation and Socialization Pavilion,” which will go on the new outdoor structure over the fenced kennels and socialization area on the east yard at the animal shelter.

The covered structure at the animal shelter was funded by a donation from the Robinson Fund. Dalton Concrete Construction, Inc. of Troy constructed the structure to cover the fenced kennels and socialization area at a cost of approximately $33,000.

On Thursday, the commissioners also authorized hiring two new animal control officers for the animal shelter, each at a pay rate of $14.85 per hour.

Also during their meeting, commissioners authorized a reinstatement, extension, and modification of a tax certificate sale and purchase agreement with Tax Ease Ohio Holdings, LLC, as requested by Miami County Treasurer Jim Stubbs. This extends the term of the agreement until Dec. 31, 2023. The county utilizes Tax Ease Ohio Holdings, LLC on tax lien sales in order to bring in delinquent taxes.

Stubbs said, through use of Tax Ease Ohio, the county has been able to collect $3.6 million in delinquent property taxes. He said the county was able to collect $2.2 million just by notifying property owners the county was going to a third party to collect the unpaid taxes.

“It’s been a very positive thing,” Stubbs said. “It’s working exactly like it was advertised.”

The commissioners also authorized paid administrative leave for Tom Tweed, recycling monitor at the Miami County Sanitary Engineering Department. The paid administrative leave is pending an independent medical exam. Miami County Human Resources Director Tammie Hoover said this was in regard to “safety concerns” involving Tweed.

Commissioner Ted Mercer was absent from Thursday’s meeting.
