MIAMI COUNTY — One person has died as a result of a crash involving a Milton-Union school bus and a car at the intersection of State Route 55 and Kessler-Frederick Road around 6:52 a.m. Thursday.
Initial reports indicate that the car was westbound on State Route 55, at an apparent high rate of speed, when the driver struck the bus head-on.
The driver of the car was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. The car’s driver, Taylor Dickey, 21, of Troy, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several students on the bus suffered injuries, with none listed as serious. Miami County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dave Duchak said approximately five students were transported to Upper Valley Medical Center and Children’s Hospital in Dayton with minor cuts and bruises and other injuries related to the impact of the accident. Other students were transported to Milton-Union school to be evaluated.
“The bus was pretty full of students, around middle school to high school-age students,” Duchak reported. “There was nothing that the bus driver could do. The car hit the bus head-on and the driver was ejected.”
Duchak said the bus driver was not injured, but was “shaken up.”
Medic units from multiple departments, including Union Township, Pleasant Hill, and Tipp City responded to assist in transporting crash victims.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, along with the Ohio Department of Transportation.
