Backpack giveaway planned
PIQUA — Students in Piqua are about to benefit from a national backpack giveaway. On Aug. 1, TCC, the largest Verizon Premium Wireless Retailer in the U.S., will be donating 100,000 backpacks full of school supplies to children through its annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway.
Since 2013, TCC has donated 260,000 backpacks stuffed with supplies.
Between noon and 2 p.m. on Aug. 1, more than 400 nationwide participating TCC stores are inviting local families to bring their children to the store to pick up a backpack filled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and more. The participating store in Piqua is located at 1204 E. Ash St. Each participating store is donating 200 backpacks.
Career Center to offer OSHA course
PIQUA — Upper Valley Career Center’s Adult Division will hold an OSHA 30-hour general industry training course from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 20-24 at the school’s Adult Technology Center, 8901 Looney Road, Piqua.
This five-day training course is a comprehensive safety program designed for anyone involved in general industry. It is specifically designed for safety directors, foremen, and field supervisors; the program provides complete information on OSHA compliance issues.
Topics to be covered include: Introduction to OSHA; Walking and Working Surfaces; Electrical Hazards; Exit Routes; Emergency Action Plans; Fire Prevention Plans; Fire Protection; Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); Material Handling; Hazard Communication/Global Harmonization System; Managing Safety and Health; Hazardous Materials; Permit Required Confined Space; Lockout/Tagout; Machine Guarding; Welding/Cutting/Brazing; Bloodborne Pathogens; and Fall Protection.
Cost is $324 per person, which includes training material and certification card.
