PIQUA — An arrest has been made in one of two armed robberies that occurred hours apart on Monday.
Chief Bruce Jamison, of the Piqua Police Department, said that Jesse L. Guerra, 41, of Piqua, faces a single charge of Aggravated Robbery in connection with the armed robbery at Sunset Drive Thru . Guerra was taken into custody by Piqua police at the Best Western on Scott Drive on Tuesday afternoon.
At least one other person was also questioned and there may possibly be further charges in connection to the case.
On Tuesday afternoon, Piqua police served a search warrant at 705 S. Wayne St., where they impounded a vehicle believed to have been involved in the drive thru robbery.
The first incident was reported on Monday at 1:54 p.m. at the Ulbrich’s store on Wayne Street.
According to Jamison, the suspect entered the store, displayed a firearm, then handcuffed an employee to a door before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police are searching for a suspect described as a “probably white older male,” approximately 5’8” to 5’10” with a “stocky build.” He was wearing gloves and a “skeleton mask,” along with blue jeans. It is unknown in which direction the suspect went when he fled the store.
Jamison said the department is “still gathering evidence” in connection with the robbery. Still photos from surveillance video at Ulbrich’s have been posted on our website.
At 7 p.m. the same day, police were dispatched to the Sunset Drive Thru, at the corner of Sunset and Commerce drives, on the report of an armed robbery.
Reports indicate that a man entered the business, displayed a firearm, and demanded cash. He fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. The clerk was not harmed.
Police are continuing their investigation into both robberies.
