TROY — In the spirit of the season, the skaters of the Troy Skating Club will present their annual free Holiday Exhibtion next Sunday.
“This will be a fun and friendly environment for the whole family,” skating director Leah Hartzell said. The event will be held Sunday, Nov. 29 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Hobart Arena in Troy.
The skaters will be performing to their favorite holiday tunes to help put everyone in the holiday spirit. The show is free and open to the public, but the club will have a bake sale during the event to benefit their Miami County Relay for Life team.
With more than 25 performances from local figure skaters at different experience levels — some of the skaters are as young as three years old — there will be something for everyone, Hartzell said.
“You’ll be amazed at what these kids can do at such a young age,” she said.
The show includes several area high school seniors: Rachel Culp and Phebe Kuo (Troy High School) and Adriana Sehlhorst (Lehman Catholic.)
The event will also feature special guests, the Harmony Ice Theater National Showcase Production Team. Harmony Ice Theater is a team of 30 competitive figure skaters from Detroit, Mich., that incorporate skating with theater and dance.
Harmony Ice Theater will be performing a show inspired by Willy Wonka.
Santa Claus will also make a special guest appearance, Hartzell said.
The Troy Skating Club has been training young skaters for decades. They are a member of the United States Figure Skating Association, which is the governing body of figure skating.
Their first ice show was produced in 1954.
