PIQUA — Just as some families go around their Thanksgiving dinner tables sharing what they’re thankful for, the Piqua Daily Call went around the local school district asking its leaders to share what they are grateful for on this holiday of reflection and appreciation.

Dwayne Thompson, Piqua City Schools superintendent:

“I am thankful for my wife — and the rest of my family — who loves and supports me in all I do. I am blessed to have three wonderful children that are a joy to spend time with and watch grow into the fine young people they are becoming. I appreciate my friends, coworkers, and students that make each day better through the time I spend with them.

“Finally, I am grateful for all this community does on behalf of the students we serve! We cannot be successful without the support of Piqua’s citizens!”

Tony Lyons, assistant superintendent

“I am very thankful for my wife, Kelli, who is the star of our family, and our four amazing children — Ashley, Bailey (Alexa, his wife), Jonathan and Caleb. I truly believe that they make me better every day. I am blessed to be able to work for the students, parents and staff members of the Piqua City School District.”

Chip Hare, athletic director

“I am very thankful for my family which includes my three wonderful sons, Mason, Tucker, and Landon. I am also very thankful for my girlfriend, Amber, and her son, Luke. My parents and sister, along with her family, still continue to impact me every day.

“I am also very appreciative to work in such a great district with great kids, coaches, and staff that inspire me daily. I truly look forward to every day I get to be around such incredible people at Piqua City Schools. I am truly blessed to live and work in such a great community that values education and extracurricular activities because of the positive impact it has on our kids that helps shape and change their lives for the good.

Rob Messick, principal, Piqua High School

“I am thankful for my family. I am so proud of everything they have achieved. I am also thankful that I have such a wonderful job. I can honestly say that I look forward to coming to work each day to spend time with so many wonderful people here at Piqua High School.”

Jeff Clark, principal, Piqua Junior High School

“I am so thankful for the love and support that I get from my wife, Lisa, my children, Gracie and Evan, and the rest of my family.

“I am also extremely appreciative to have had the experience of being a student in Piqua City Schools, and to now work for Piqua City Schools. The students, parents, and community of Piqua are an amazing group of people.

”Finally, I am thankful to work with the best staff in the world, who work hard every day to make sure our students are prepared to thrive in our community as respectful, responsible, and kind young men and women.”

Josh Kauffman, principal, Piqua Central Intermediate School

“I am thankful and humbled that I get to spend every day surrounded by people that inspire me! From my wife, Bethany, who is my champion and love of my life, to my three children, Evelyn, Emerson, and Ezekiel, who taught me what love truly is, to my amazingly hard-working staff that gives me everything they have everyday, to the students that inspire me and remind me every day through their hard work and resilience that kids deserve our very best and are incredible human beings.

“I am also very grateful to work in a beautiful facility built by a community that puts our young people first and completely understands that education within our walls unlocks endless possibilities for our students to be prepared to go on and do great things for our community and beyond!”

Ross Loudenback, principal, Springcreek Primary School

“I am thankful and blessed to have an amazing support system at home with my wife and four girls! They are the loves of my life and words can’t describe what they mean to me.

“Additionally, I am thankful for the opportunity to be an administrator for Piqua City Schools. At Springcreek, we have a dedicated staff that gives their very best to students on a daily basis. I am proud of all the hard work they put in to make our building a great place for students!

”Lastly, I am thankful for the support of our community members and allowing us to do what is best for students.”

Tracy Trogdlon, principal, Washington Primary School

“I am thankful for working with wonderful staff and students. The staff at Washington are so dedicated and really strive to make the children better human beings. The students enjoy learning and are eager to make friends and help each other. There are so many smiling faces here each day!

”Also, I am thankful for the community support in our mission to make school a great place for kids.

“I am also thankful for my three children, who have grown up to be caring, compassionate adults.”
