PIQUA — Fusion will hold their monthly Project DAWN training, a community-based overdose education and naloxone distribution program through Miami County Public Health, on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 5:30 pm at Fusion, 421 Broadway.

Fall rummage and bake sale

PIQUA — A fall rummage and sake sale will be held Friday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church, 248 Wood St., Piqua. Enter from the parking lot entrance. Facility is handicapped-accessible.

Guest speaker planned

PIQUA — The Upper Miami Valley Weston A. Price Chapter will host Dr. Juan Fernandez from Full Life Chiropractic, Maximized Living Health Center in Troy, on Monday, Nov. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Piqua Nazarene Church, 400 S. Sunset Drive, on the topic of gut health. This event is free and open to the public.

Bazaars to be held

COVINGTON — The following Bazaars are planned:

• A bazaar, bake sale, cookie walk and homemade crafts will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 3, at Covington Presbyterian Church, corner of Wright and Pearl streets. Cook’s Corner also will offer soups and other items.

• St. Teresa Church, located at 6925 U.S. Route 36 in Covington, will host their annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a raffle, outside crafters and vendors, hand-crafted items, and baked goods.

St. Mary’s Benefit Fish Fry for Angie Hohlbein

PIQUA — St. Mary Parish will be holding a benefit fish fry on Friday, Nov. 9, from 5-7:30 p.m. for Angie Hohlbein to help defray medical expenses the family has incurred since her diagnosis of leukemia in December. Angie and her husband, Mitch, and their family have chaired the St. Mary Lenten fish fries for over 20 years.

The benefit fish fry will be held in the cafeteria of Piqua Catholic School, located at 503 W. North Street. Dinner consists of all the fish you can eat along with french fries or macaroni and cheese, cole slaw or applesauce and coffee or water. Baked fish will also be available. Desserts and soft drinks are sold a-la-carte.

Fall fundraiser upcoming

COVINGTON — The Covington Church of the Brethren’s fall fundraiser, featuring homemade chicken and noodles and freshly baked apple dumplings, is coming up on Saturday, Nov. 10. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. and continue until all is sold out, which usually occurs around 5 p.m. Soft drinks, coffee, and bottled water will be available, plus ice cream to go with the apple dumplings.

The church, located at at 101 N. Wall St. at the corner of Wall and Wright streets, is handicapped-accessible from the Wall Street entrance. An elevator goes to the lower level where the dining room is located. The other entrance will be at the Wright Street door, which leads directly to a stairway down to the dining hall. Prayer breakfast planned

PIQUA — A prayer breakfast will be held on Nov. 10 at the Miami Valley Centre Mall at 8 a.m. Breakfast will be free. Pastor Brenda Freeman of Cyrene AME Church will be speaking. The public is invited to attend.

Veterans breakfast planned

PIQUA — A veterans breakfast, open to the public, will be offered at 10 a.m. Nov. 10, at the Snyder Road Church of God, 636 E. Snyder Road, Piqua.

Organ concert planned

PIQUA — On Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. the organists at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Piqua will be providing a free concert for the community on the Moeller pipe organ.

St. Paul’s organist Jane Ann Vest and Worship Director Jason Townsend will be combining their talents for a concert in the sanctuary. As early as 1853 when the first organ at St. Paul’s was imported from Bavaria and installed, organ music has been an important part of worship at St. Paul’s.

St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church is located at 500 N. Downing Street in the downtown historic district of Piqua and is handicap accessible.

WWI commemoration set

PIQUA — Bethel United Methodist Church, 2505 E. Loy Road, Piqua has registered to participate to Toll the Bells on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. local time. The World War I Centennial Commission and Commemorative Partners call on all Americans everywhere to toll the bells in honor of the 116,516 Americans who died in “The War to End All Wars.” Bells are to toll 21 times, at five-second intervals.

Tolling of bells is the traditional way to mark someone’s passing. Nov. 11, 2018 is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended hostilities in World War I; 21 tolls of the bell symbolize the nation’s highest honor. It is based on the 21-gun salute.

St. Boniface Cabbage Roll / Heritage Bread Sale

PIQUA — The fifth annual St. Boniface Oktoberfest Cabbage Roll / Heritage Bread Sale is underway. The deadline to order cabbage rolls and breads is Monday, Nov. 12.

The home-made, pork cabbage rolls, which are oven/freezer ready, can be purchased at $2.50 each or a pan of 12 for $27 for a $3 saving. Both include a sauerkraut/tomato mixture and baking directions.

Order Pick-Up is Saturday, Nov. 17, from noon to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 18, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Caserta Activity Center, 218 S. Downing, Piqua. Proceeds from the sale benefit the parish’s Family Life Group.

Craft show upcoming

WEST MILTON — Hoffman United Methodist Church will hold its annual Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 17 in the church activity center, 201 S. Main St., West Milton.

The event will feature 20-plus booths offering a wide variety of items including jewelry, wood crafted items, candles, baked goods and more.

The Methodist Women will also offer their homemade, ready-to-cook pot pie by the bag.

The Hoffman Cafe’ will provide coffee and doughnuts, pop, sandwiches, homemade chicken corn soup, vegetable soup, and a variety of pies.
