PIQUA — Cassie B. Barlow, Ph.D, will be the featured speaker for the 22nd YWCA Women of Excellence luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Piqua Country Club. The reception begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon and award presentation from 12-1:30 p.m.
The 2018 Women of Excellence honorees are Connie Strehle of Piqua and Myrna Yoder of Troy. The Young Woman of Tomorrow honoree is Darby Bubp of Piqua.
Dr. Barlow is employed as director of Aerospace Professional Development Center (APDC) at Southwestern Ohio Council on Higher Education. APDC is focused on workforce development needs across Ohio, primarily in the aerospace and defense industry, as well as science, technology, engineering and math disciplines.
She is familiar with leading multiple activities, serving previously as the 88th Air Base Wing and Installation Commander, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. In that role, she commanded one of the largest air base wings in the Air Force, with more than 5,000 Air Force military, civilian and contractor employees.
Dr. Barlow retired from active duty with the U.S. Air Force as colonel in 2014. She was commissioned in 1988 as a distinguished graduate of Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. Following graduation, she was assigned to her first of 12 assignments spanning the world.
Dr. Barlow earned a Bachelor of Psychology degree from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; Master of Clinical Psychology degree from Chapman University, Orange County, California; and Ph.D from Rice University, Houston, Texas. She also earned master’s degrees in Military Operational Art and Science and in National Security.
She lives in Beavercreek with her husband, Tim, her daughter and mother.
