Block party to spread love in Piqua

PIQUA – Piqua’s Christian Life Center (CLC) is going to be showing some love for Piqua by hosting their first annual Love Piqua Block Party on July 11 across from the Paul Sherry Dealership.

“It is the most non-church event,” Matthew Klimis, pastor of the Piqua branch of the CLC, said. “It is strictly something good for the city.” Klimis is hoping to connect people throughout the city, including Christians and non-Christians alike, with an entertaining and positive event.

“This is something we’re actually looking to do every year for the city of Piqua,” Klimis said. “It’s basically an event that I feel like is really needed for the city of Piqua.”

Klimis is hoping that the block party will “build the relational temperature in the city,” boosting Piqua’s sense of community and fun.

“Even if CLC ceased to exist, I would be doing this,” Klimis said.

Inflatables, including two 65-foot bounce houses, will be provided from A and S Play Zone. There will be an obstacle course, bubble soccer, balloon artist Jennifer Bishop, and other games. Team Beast will also be bringing their “Heavy Metal” monster truck. The block party will also be showing a movie on the lawn for kids at around 8:30 p.m.

There will be “hundreds of dollars of prizes and giveaways” available for attendees to enter to win for free, according to Klimis. They will have to provide their name, address, and phone number.

There will be live performances from Somersault, DJ Sean Miller, J Nibb, Shadow Facts, and country singer Ashley Martin, starting at 3:15 p.m. Food vendors include Susie’s Big Dipper, Pence Concessions, Tin Roof Mobile, Cumberland Kettle Corn and more. Local businesses will be selling items as well, Klimis said.

“We can shop in our own city [and] really invest in our city and build relationships in our city,” Klimis said, explaining that CLC hopes to showcase businesses that are in and around Piqua at the block party.

Businesses or groups are encouraged to donate prizes for the Love Piqua Block Party. Businesses or establishments that donate prizes will be recognized at the event and will be given free promotion. Prizes must be delivered to the Piqua CLC office by June 29.

The Love Piqua Block Party will be held at the old Rick James Car Dealership at 8654 N. County Road 25-A in Piqua, across from the Paul Sherry Dealership. The party will begin at 3 p.m. and go until 10:30 p.m. on July 11. All are welcome and encouraged to attend.
