Piqua police reports highlights


PIQUA — The following are highlights from the Piqua police reports. All information is provided by Piqua police reports.

AGENCY ASSIST: Officers responded to an assist fire department complaint on the 200 block of Cedarbrook Drive on May 23 at approximately 9 a.m. A caller advised she was filling a hole in her wall when the material caught fire spontaneously. The fire was out upon officer arrival, and the fire department searched for additional hidden flames. No additional fires were reported by the fire department.

A small fire started in back of a truck in the area of Drexel Avenue and Washington Avenue on May 23 at 4:25 p.m. The fire was out upon arrival.

THEFT: A firearm was reported stolen from a residence on Broadway on May 23. The firearm was not reported stolen until after it was recovered by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office as a result of a narcotics search warrant.

An officer was dispatched to a theft complaint in reference to someone stealing outdoor barn lights on the 800 block of Covington Avenue sometime between May 21-23.

A vehicle was stolen off a lot on the 500 block of McKinley Avenue sometime over night between 2-11 a.m. on May 24.

A caller advised a recently fired employee had stolen money from a business on the 300 block of West Water Street on May 24. The investigation is pending.

ACCIDENT: There was a report of an accident with no injuries in the area of Young Street and South Downing Street on May 23 at approximately 9:30 a.m. The at-fault driver was cited.

There was a traffic crash on the 600 block of McKinley Avenue on May 24 at 5:35 p.m. The at-fault driver was cited.

FOUND: A bicycle was found on the 1500 block of Forest Avenue on May 23 at 10:20 a.m. The bicycle was recovered and placed into property.

A bicycle was found on the 1100 block of South Roosevelt Avenue on May 23 at 11:40 a.m. The bicycle was collected and entered into property.

UNRULY JUVENILE: There was a report of juveniles fighting on the 900 block of North McKinley Avenue on May 23 at 3:30 p.m. Once on scene, both juveniles advised an incident did occur. An officer spoke with both juveniles’ parents who agreed to deal with the issue internally.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT: Police responded to an assault complaint on the 300 block of South Wayne Street on May 23 at approximately 4:30 p.m. A caller advised his brother was assaulted by another juvenile. It was discovered during the investigation that both juveniles engaged in fighting one another. Both of the juvenile suspects were warned for disorderly conduct.

Officers were dispatched to a residence on the 400 block of Harrison Street on May 24 at around midnight multiple times for an 18-year-old male subject who was highly intoxicated and fighting with family. The male was incarcerated for underage consumption and disorderly conduct. Ryan J. Hicks, 18, of Piqua, was charged with first-degree misdemeanor underage consumption and minor misdemeanor disorderly conduct in connection with this incident.

A caller said her neighbors were intoxicated and yelling at her on the 1700 block of South Main Street on May 24 at 8:20 p.m. One of the neighbors had an unrelated warrant for their arrest and was incarcerated.

TRESPASSING: A male subject was trespassed from a property on the 1000 block of Park Avenue on May 23 at approximately 7:50 p.m.

There was a report of a female at Waffle House causing problems and refusing to leave on May 25 at 3:40 p.m. The female was found to be intoxicated. The female was trespassed and left the area.

SUSPICIOUS: An anonymous caller said there was a male with a needle in his hand talking about “shooting up” in the area of East North Street and Spring Street on May 23 at 8 p.m. The area was checked, and the male was not located.

An officer was dispatched to a suspicious complaint in reference to a white male wearing all black clothing attempting to open car doors on the 900 block of North McKinley Avenue on May 23 at approximately 9:20 p.m. The area was checked by officers, and the male was not located.

ANIMAL COMPLAINT: A puppy was found to be in a car with water but no air conditioning on the 1200 block of East Ash Street on May 24 at approximately 2:45 p.m. The owner came out upon police arrival. The owner was warned for animal abuse and left with the puppy.
