PIQUA — An employee at Z’s Food and Spirits suffered a deep cut after a Sidney woman reportedly struck him with a beer bottle on early Sunday morning.
Chelsey R. Hayward, 24, of Sidney, was charged with second-degree felonious assault and arraigned in Miami County Municipal Court on that charge on Monday.
There was a report of a disturbance at Z’s, located at 319 N. Wayne Street, at approximately 1 a.m. on Sunday when a bouncer at the bar was attempting to remove a male patron. According to Deputy Chief Jason Preston of the Piqua Police Department, an altercation began between the male patron and the bouncer when the bouncer asked the patron to leave and he refused.
Hayward, a friend of the male patron, then got involved by allegedly striking the bouncer with a beer bottle. According to Piqua police reports, the bottle broke and the bouncer suffered a deep cut on his right arm as well as several smaller cuts on his wrist. The Piqua Fire Department responded to the scene and treated both the bouncer and the male patron.
Hayward was incarcerated at the Miami County Jail after the incident and posted surety bond on Monday.
A preliminary hearing for Hayward is scheduled for May 30.
In other news:
• Marquis D. Purter, 30, of Piqua, was picked up on a warrant for fourth-degree felony disrupting public services and second-degree misdemeanor criminal damaging on Sunday.
Purter was charged in connection with a report of a disturbance at the Bent Tree Apartments on Garbry Road on May 1, at approximately 10 p.m. According to Piqua police reports, a female subject tried to call 911 to report a disturbance with a known male subject. The male subject reportedly took the phone and smashed it so she couldn’t call 911, and he then left the scene.
Purter was arraigned on those charges in Miami County Municipal Court on Monday, and he also posted bond on Monday. A preliminary hearing for Purter is scheduled for May 30.
• Ryan L. Saunders, 39, of Piqua, was charged with fifth-degree felony breaking and entering on May 18. Saunders was charged in connection with a reported burglary on the 1600 block of West Grant Street on May 18, at approximately 9:10 a.m.
The victim reported that Saunders broke into her detached garage and stole power tools, according to Piqua police reports. The suspect then pawned them. The tools were located at a local pawn shop, and the owner retrieved them.
