PIQUA — Over a dozen victims reported the tires to their vehicles being slashed in a string of property damage incidents taking place overnight one night last week.
According to recent Piqua police reports, a number of residents with cars parked outside along Broadway Street, West High Street, North Downing Street, and West Water Street reported finding their tires had been slashed or punctured sometime overnight between Feb. 20-21.
No one has been charged in connection with this string of property damage, according to Deputy Chief Jason Preston of the Piqua Police Department. Nothing similar to these incidents has also taken place since that “random spike,” Preston said.
In approximately 17 criminal damage reports, there were over 20 cars with one or more tires slashed that night.
The street blocks where tires were reportedly slashed that night include the following:
• The 200 and 300 blocks of Broadway Street
• The 300, 800, 900, 1000, and 1200 blocks of West High Street
• The 300 North Downing Street
• The 600 block of West Water Street
According to one report, security video footage was collected from the scene.
When asked what people can do to keep their vehicles safe, Preston advised that they can be vigilant of anyone walking around outside, particularly if they are lingering around cars.
All of those cars had been sitting outside, though, Preston noted, which can make it hard to prevent that in the middle of the night.
