Information provided by the Miami County Sheriff’s Office:
On August 31 and September 17, 2015 the Miami County Sheriff’s Office agency conducted the annual marijuana eradication operation with the assistance of Special Agents from BCI & I. BCI & I provides a helicopter, pilot, and a specially trained agent to fly over the county in an attempt to locate marijuana being grown illegally. Detectives and other Special Agents respond on the ground to locations where marijuana is located and eradicate the contraband.
During the two day operation marijuana plants were located and seized. The plants will later be destroyed according to law.
DRUG SEARCH: Deputy Robert assisted SRO Deputy Karn at Newton Schools by conducting a drug search. Deputy Roberts walked K9 Bear through the hallways and had him check lockers as we went by. He did not indicate on anything and no drugs were found.
THEFT: A business owner in the 2000 block of Stone Circle Drive, Troy, reported that someone had broken into his business over the weekend. Computer scanner tool worth $10,000 was stolen from the business.
CULTIVATION: A deputy was dispatched to the area of Markley Road and Wright Road, Laura, on a suspicious complaint. Dispatched advised that a white van dropped off a white male and the male went into a corn field on Wright Road. After further investigation Daren Ritenour was arrested and charged with cultivation, criminal trespass, and CCW.
BURGLARY: A deputy responded to the 4800 block of Brown Road, Piqua, in reference to a burglary complaint.
THEFT OF ATVS: An Eaton resident reported that two ATV’s were taken out of a shed on her property in the 2000 block of Kessler-Frederick Road in Union Township. The resident did not have any information on the four wheelers other than one was blue and one was woodland camouflage in color. They were both made by a company named TAOTAO.
DRUG CHARGES: On State Route 48, West Milton, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a blue Honda Civic, in reference the registered owner driving on a suspended license. The registered owner identified as Steven Hallman, was subsequently arrested and incarcerated on felony drug charges.
EQUIPMENT VIOLATIONS: A deputy stopped the listed vehicle for equipment violations at Cottage Avenue, Piqua. The driver was identified as, Matthew Nash and passenger as, Scott Hartzell. Mr. Nash does not have a valid Ohio drivers license. He was issued a citation for the violations and released. The plates and registration were seized from the vehicle at the request of the BMV. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
