PIQUA — A man was reportedly robbed at gunpoint by three or four males on Sunday night at 11:15 p.m. The incident occurred on the 700 block of South Downing Street. According to Piqua police reports, one of the suspects had a chrome handgun and took the victim’s cell phone. The victim did not know the suspects.
The incident is still currently under investigation, according to Piqua Chief of Police Bruce Jamison. According to a description from the victim, one of the suspects is believed to be a black male, approximately 5’5” tall, and possibly in his 20s. He is believed to have short, braided hair and possibly some facial hair.
In an unrelated incident earlier on Sunday, a man tried to force his way into a house on the 800 block of Manier Avenue at 12:38 p.m. The suspect, Bobby R. Barrett, 30, of Tipp City, reportedly damaged property with a garden tool and assaulted several people, according to Piqua police reports.
“He was claiming residents there owed him money,” Jamison said. According to Jamison, there was a female at the house known to Barrett. Barrett was allegedly assaulting the female when neighbors saw the incident and intervened.
“We have multiple witnesses to this,” Jamison said.
Following the incident, Barrett was arrested for three counts of first-degree misdemeanor assault and one count of fifth-degree felony attempted burglary.
Barrett was released from the Miami County Jail on his own recognizance later on Sunday. A preliminary hearing is set for Barrett on Sept. 30.
