PIQUA — Piqua High School’s show choir, “The Company,” is preparing for the upcoming 35th Annual Show Choir Invitational. This event is being held Saturday, Jan. 13, at 9 a.m. at the Piqua High School Hartzell Center for Performing Arts. Please come and support the award-winning show choir.
This year, there are 14 different high school show choirs participating, including Lehman Catholic High School, Milton-Union High School, Licking Valley High School, Ada High School, Marion-Harding High School, Lebanon High School, Olentangy Orange High School, Riverside High School, St Clairsville High School, Teays Valley High School, Edgewood High School, Garfield Heights High School and Solon High School.
“The kids have all worked very hard this year,” Director Tom Westfall said. “The theme of this year’s show is ‘Love Yourself.’ The message of this show is for everyone to realize how important every single person is, and to celebrate our differences. We have to love ourselves to be successful in work, relationships, school, etc.”
The daytime competition starts at 9 a.m. with the Lehman “Limelighters,” followed by Milton Unions “Center Stage” and the rest of the show choirs will follow. Daytime awards will take place at 5 p.m. and this will reveal who the top six show choirs are that will be returning for the evening finals competition. The finals will begin at 7 p.m., and Piqua High School’s “The Company” will perform at 10 p.m.
Admission to the daytime competition is $10 for adults and $7 for students. The evening finals competition is $10 for everyone. An all-day pass is $15. All admission costs will be paid at the door; no advance sales. There also will be a full convenience concession stand.
