Holiday Open House coming to Hayner

Events planned for Dec. 2-3

TROY — Saturday, Dec. 2 is children’s day at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center, 301 W. Main St., beginning at 1 p.m. with a demonstration by Ballet Shreffler and Madcap puppet shows at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Santa Claus will visit at 2:15 p.m. to hear your little ones’ 2017 gift lists. There also will be crafts and refreshments all day.

This holiday open house is free and open to the public. However, the puppet shows require free tickets, which can be obtained at the Hayner anytime on Dec. 2, beginning at 9 a.m.

Sunday, Dec. 3 is the grand opening of the Hayner’s Holiday décor. Over 20 decorators have adorned the entire three-story mansion with nine different versions of the 2017 theme, “The Carols of Christmas.” The decorators for this season are Mary Nilsen and Donna Crosier, David Fair on the Square, The 3 Weird Sisters Studio, Your Personal Florist, James Duty and Sheila Fulks, Jackie Boyd, Pam Voisard, Joyce Ellerman, Brenda Rice, Dawn Flory and Home School Art Students, Miami County Herb Society and the Hayner Exhibit Committee.

As you tour the holiday display, enjoy refreshments and live music in the East Room all day. The Troy High School a Capella choir, Troy Tones will open the day at 1 p.m. Continuing the holiday program at 1:30 will be Trio Elegiaque with Tara Mar and Elizabeth Shinn both on cello and David Zelmon on piano. Trojan City Music’s string instructor, Chris Aldridge, will share the 2:30 set with ukulele students. At 3 p.m., the Clockwork Wizards have rock and reggae for music lovers. Opera singer Rachael Boezi with David Wion, on piano, will perform at 3:30. Singer-songwriter Cody Madonna continues at 4 p.m. on guitar. The Gulick family will take the last set at 4:30 p.m., with Mom and Dad and their “stair-step” children playing piano, recorder and cello. There are no fees for this Troy tradition at Hayner.
