FLETCHER — Residents of the village of Fletcher and Brown Township approved levies for safety services, but voted down an additional tax in Brown Township for operating expenses, according to unofficial election results.
Fletcher levies pass
The village of Fletcher voted on three renewal levies for safety services.
The 1.50 mills levy for four years for ambulance and EMS services passed 77.53 percent to 22.47 percent by a vote of 69 votes for and 20 against.
The 1.50 mills levy for four years for fire services passed 81.11 percent to 18.89 percent by a vote of 73 votes for and 17 against.
The 1.00 mills levy for five years that is also for fire services passed 78.41 to 21.59 by a vote of 69 votes for and 19 against.
The village of Fletcher contracts with the Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department for fire services. They also contract with St. Paris for additional ambulance services.
The funds will help pay for day-to-day operations at the Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department. The Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department is not paid solely through the village of Fletcher, though.
The Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department serves its fire district consisting of nearly 80 square miles, including the village of Fletcher, Brown Township, Springcreek Township, the northern areas of Lostcreek Township, the southern areas of Green Township and the southeastern areas of Orange Township. The Fletcher Volunteer Fire Department also responds to many mutual aid calls to the surrounding fire districts, and they rely on the same mutual aid response from those districts.
Brown Township approves safety levies
Residents of Brown Township approved renewal levies for fire and EMS, but ultimately voted down an additional operating services levy.
The 1.5o mills levy for five years for fire services passed 79.72 percent to 20.28 percent by a vote of 224 for and 57 against.
The 1.5o mills levy for five years for ambulance services passed 79.42 percent to 20.58 percent by a vote of 220 for and 57 against.
The 1.50 mills levy for current expenses for the township failed 55.11 percent to 44.89 percent by a vote of 151 against and 123 for.
