Genealogy program set

PIQUA — The Miami County Historical & Genealogical Society will welcome Certified Memorialist John Piatt as the speaker at their Tuesday, Oct. 17 meeting in Piqua Public Library’s Louis Room at 6:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and no reservations are required.

Piatt, the information and reference coordinator for the library, will be sharing “Weird, Eerie, and Spooky Necropolises” from around the world. The word “necropolis” literally translates to “City of the Dead.” The monuments he will focus on are all unique, with a variety of legends, curses, poltergeist sightings and weird and macabre facts from cemeteries around the world.

Piatt earned the designation of Certified Memorialist by the Monument Builders of North America. Through a combination of years in the memorial industry, the completion of the MBNA Memorial Design course, civic and industry achievement and culminating in a very comprehensive exam, the process was nearly five years in duration.
