PIQUA — Dan Cline, a journeyman lineworker with the Piqua Power System, won three awards at the 2017 American Municipal Power (AMP) Inc. Lineworkers Rodeo, held Aug. 26, at the AMP training yard at AMP headquarters in Columbus.
More than 30 electric lineworkers competed in the rodeo, which featured three levels of competition: team, journeyman and apprentice. The events are designed to replicate actual lineworker tasks and to test skills needed on a daily basis. Events were judged based on safety, work practices, neatness, ability, equipment handling and timely event completion.
Cline received the following awards in the journeyman competition: Hurtman Rescue — second place; Angle Shoe Change Out – second place; and New Service — third place.
“The AMP Lineworkers Rodeo is an opportunity to showcase the work of our member community lineworkers,” said Michelle Palmer, AMP vice president of Technical Services. “Safety is a priority in our industry, and safe work practices are emphasized during the rodeo. The event truly is an acknowlege of the commitment, professionalism and dedication of the men and women who keep the lights on in AMP member communities.
