PIQUA — Tippecanoe Community Band, a year-round concert band of more than 40 musicians, will present a free concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Hance Pavilion in Piqua’s Fountain Park.
The Fall Festival of Music will include selections from the Big Band era, music for military heroes, marches, plus familiar themes of masked heroes from film and Broadway: “Batman,” “Spider-Man,” “Superman,” “Zorro” and “Phantom of the Opera.”
The band is directed by Gail Ahmed, a music educator from Tipp City and an adjunct instructor at Edison State Community College. Several Piqua residents are members of the Tippecanoe Community Band, which plays in Piqua at least three times per year. The band performs throughout the summer, fall, and Christmas seasons.
The band will also open the free entertainment at Tipp City Mum Festival at noon Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Tipp City Park. During the fall, the band continues to rehearse in preparation for its popular indoor concert season offering traditional Christmas music and winter favorites.
Featuring bench-style seating and a large stage, Hance Pavilion is a covered, open-air facility at Fountain Park, which is handicapped-accessible, has restrooms on site and free parking along Forest Avenue.
