MIAMI COUNTY — The man who stabbed two people in a hotel room entered a guilty to the charges in Miami County Common Pleas Court on Thursday.
David Boyea, 33, entered a plea of guilty on two counts of attempted murder and one count of felony aggravated burglary. Boyea was indicted by a grand jury on the charges. Sentencing was set for Oct. 2. He could face up to 33 years in prison, but the plea agreement with the state will recommend 10 years.
Boyea was scheduled to appear for a bench trial on Aug. 24. In previous court records, Boyea had requested a continuance to allow him more time to obtain his late mother’s life insurance to hire a private attorney.
Boyea admitted to stabbing his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in a hotel room at the America’s Best Inn and Suites on Feb. 6. The victims, Crystal Brooks, 33, and Steve Burns, 30, received multiple wounds during the incident. The trio worked together at the Troy Burger King. Brooks was in critical condition from multiple stab wounds to the chest, but survived. Brooks was residing at the motel at the time of the incident.
Boyea was apprehended by Troy Police road patrol at Race and Mulberry streets later that morning of the incident.
Boyea’s bond of $500,000 was continued.
