COVINGTON – A Covington woman was transported aboard CareFlight after surviving a 30-foot fall from a rope swing into Greenville Creek on Tuesday evening.
Miami County sheriff’s deputies, Covington police, Covington Fire Department, and Covington Rescue Squad members responded to 8808 Covington-Gettysburg Road at 10:12 p.m. on the report of a 22-year-old female who fell from a rope swing in the creek.
Sgt. Chris Bobb of the Miami County Sheriff’s Department said the woman was swinging from a rope swing when she apparently lost her grip and fell and estimated 30 feet. Bobb said that it is unknown at this time if she fell directly into the water or struck the ground before hitting the water.
Authorities initiated a search for the woman, whose name has not been released.
About 15-20 minutes into the search, the woman was located an estimated several hundred yards downstream, having extricated herself from the creek. She was reportedly sitting on the creek bank when rescuers reached her.
The woman suffered head injuries along with possible neck and back injury.
CareFlight responded to the scene to transport her to a Dayton Hospital for treatment.
First responders cleared the scene around 11:15 p.m.
