MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Sheriff’s Office has announced a suspect connected to the Tipp City narcotics distribution ring has been apprehended in Florida.
On July 15, Hugo Avendano, age 32, formerly of Tipp City, was apprehended by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office in Florida on Miami County warrants. Avendano is the fifth of eight suspects to be taken into custody for involvement in a large-scale narcotics operation involving the import and distribution of heroin and methamphetamine into the Miami Valley. Avendano’s multiple count indictment from last year includes charges of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, drug trafficking, and money laundering. Avendano is currently fighting extradition to Ohio.
“We and the prosecutor’s office will be working to seek a Governor’s warrant to have Avendano extradited to Miami County to face justice,” said Sheriff David Duchak. “Detectives are actively working with the U.S. Marshal’s Service to locate the other three suspects.”
The other four co-defendants who were taken into custody have been sentenced in Miami County Common Pleas Court for their involvement earlier this year.
