PIQUA — “The food was excellent! This is a great addition to Piqua.” “The food is soooo good and the service is awesome. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes good food.” “This place has excellent food and the staff and environment are excellent also …”
The reviews are in, and thus far, they’ve been consistently positive: El Herradero, the area’s newest Mexican restaurant, is a hit with local foodies.
Located at 1598 Covington Ave. in Piqua, El Herradero Mexican Grill opened on June 27, and held its official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 13.
“It’s a family restaurant; we’ve been working for, like, 15 years in the business,” said manager Carlos Cordoba, adding that he and relatives have experience at eateries in Lima, Kentucky and Indiana. “Business has been good; we’ve been busy. I can’t complain.”
Cordoba said he heard there was a need for more Mexican food options in Piqua, so thought he’d try his luck here. “We had a friend who came here and saw there was only like one other restaurant and they told me to check out the place. So I said, ‘Yeah, let’s try!’”
The menu at El Herradero ranges from such popular appetizers as chips, salsa and guacamole to more substantial fare like chimichangas and fajitas, the latter of which Cordoba considers one of the restaurant’s specialities.
On Tuesdays, everything is 15 percent off at El Herradero, which is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
