PIQUA — The July 12 YWCA Monthly Luncheon Series will feature The Premier Health EMS center of Excellence along with CareFlight Air and Mobile units. The program, which is free and open to the public, begins at 11 a.m. followed by a noon luncheon, which is $6 per person.
Miami Valley Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) educations have a new assistant — the Mobile Education Laboratory on wheels or MEL for short. “Staff members of Miami Valley Hospital will demonstrate use of a human simulator that is used in the greater Dayton area to provide continuing emergency medicine education to physicians, nurses, paramedics and other emergency care providers in the region,” said Beth Royer-Delong, YWCA Program Director. “This is a new assistant that is even more life-like and allows medical educators to create realistic situations that help EMS personnel develop the skills they need to treat these complicated cases.”
“We are extremely excited to see how this life-like patient simulator known as iStan is used,” Royer-DeLong added. “This will be a great learning experience for each of us.”
Reservations for the program and luncheon must be made by Monday, July 10, by calling the YWCA at 773-6626. A UVMC nurse is available from 10:15-11 a.m. for free blood pressure and glucose screenings. The YWCA is handicapped accessible.
