Commissioners OK fairgrounds improvement

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Commissioners authorized improvements to the county fairgrounds and discussed changes in a contract for disability services.

The commissioners approved the repaving of two driveways at the Miami County Fairgrounds.

“This project is pretty much a direct result of the torrential rain we had at last year’s county fair. It made the north parking area very difficult to get out of,” Commissioner John “Bud”O’Brien said. It includes the north-south drive and the fairgrounds south entrance.

This work, at a cost not to exceed $100,902, will be included in the 2017 asphalt resurfacing program, which was awarded to John R. Jurgensen Company. The Engineer’s Office will internally bill the Commissioner’s Office for the work.

The commissioners also approved a $293,250 contract between the Miami County Family and Children First Council (FCFC) and Riverside of Miami County for early childhood intervention service coordination and early childhood intake and referral.

According to FCFC coordinator Beth Adkins, the contract will have to be revised due to last minute notification of changes from the state.

Adkins said that FCFC has contracted with Riverside for these services for several years, the state opted to award the contract to a single agency for all of Ohio, the Cleveland Sight Center.

This will affect the $48,870 portion of the contract regarding intake and referral. Cleveland Sight Center will handle the marketing, intake and referral for the whole state, Adkins said. FCFC did not find out until last week, she said. They will come to commissioners with a new contract at an upcoming meeting.

“During [Gov. John Kasich’s] time in office, his assault on local governments has not only been egregious, but continuous. This is just another example of this governor’s efforts to take control from the locals and give it to one entity,” O’Brien said.

In other business, the board approved the purchase of Dell warranties for servers and storage at a cost of $12,775.
