PIQUA — A fight over cigarettes led to an apparent stabbing early Tuesday morning at the La Quinta Inn.
Dustin G. Noreikas, 31, of Troy, was arrested for second-degree felonious assault and first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence after allegedly stabbing his father in the lobby of the La Quinta Inn at approximately 1:20 a.m.
Multiple Piqua police officers were dispatched to the hotel, with one deploying an AR15 rifle, according to Miami County Municipal Court records. Officers found Noreikas sitting on his father’s chest and holding a pocket knife while reportedly trying to stab his father in the face.
Noreikas stopped assaulting the victim when officers arrived and began yelling commands at him to stop. One officer was able to get the victim away from Noreikas, who eventually dropped the knife. Noreikas also reportedly asked the officers to shoot him.
According to initial reports, Noreikas’ father suffered “at least four puncture wounds underneath his right eye and multiple other small cuts to his arms.” After the incident, Noreikas’ father reportedly told police that Noreikas was suffering from mental health issues and had not been medicated “for some time” at the time of the attack. He also told police that a fight over cigarettes instigated the attack.
The victim was transported to and treated at Upper Valley Medical Center.
Noreikas was incarcerated at the Miami County Jail, where he is continuing to be held on $50,000 bond. He was arraigned on those charges Tuesday in Miami County Municipal Court. A preliminary hearing for him is scheduled for June 21.
