COVINGTON —The Covington Board of Education met in special session Monday morning to award a contract for a project at the high school.
The board approved a contract with Finfrock Construction Company, Inc. to complete the north parking lot and football stadium parking lot project. The contract was approved in the amount of $177,000. The parking lots have been part of the previously approved and discussed projects for renovations at the high school for the past year.
According to previous board meetings, the football stadium will be receiving an additional 90 parking spots and the area near the bus turnaround area will be getting 32 spots. The student parking lot at the high school is currently gravel and is also expected to be paved.
The board also approved hiring two new teachers. The board approved a one-year contract to Morgan Schmitz, who will be a Covington High School language arts teacher. The board then approved a one-year contract to Lauren Menke, who will be a Covington Junior High School and high school math teacher.
The board is also expected to hire a new Covington Elementary School principal after the recent resignation of of Rick Fry as Covington Elementary School principal. Fry spent six years with Covington and 41 years in education. The board also accepted the resignation of Matt Pond as associate principal and transportation director during their last meeting in May.
Board member Kerry Murphy was absent during Monday’s special session.
