PIQUA – An attempted traffic stop by a Piqua police officer resulted in a pursuit, a crash, and a foot pursuit on the streets of the city on Tuesday evening.
Lt. Marcos Rodriquez said that the officer observed a vehicle speeding. As the vehicle passed his cruiser, the officer believed that he recognized the driver as a subject believed to be driving under suspension.
When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the small black car, refused to stop and began to flee. The chase apparently circled several blocks in the vicinity of Broadway and North Street.
Rodriquez said that since the vehicle stayed in the same vicinity, people began to come outside to watch. It was then that officers shut down the chase so as to not endanger bystanders.
With the pursuit called off, the suspects apparently continued driving in a reckless manner and crashed into a parked SUV on North Street at Franklin Street. The impact forced the SUV into a a parked motorcycle.
Both suspects then fled on foot in the direction of Boone Street.
After a search of the area, the suspects were not found but police and troopers from the Piqua Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol investigated the crash and impounded the suspects vehicle.
There were no injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
