TROY — With the annual Troy Strawberry Festival coming up this weekend, organizers are anticipating Troy’s famous festival to be as fun as ever.
Matt Watkins, the 2017 Strawberry Festival chairman, said festival attendees can expect movie-themed events and games for this year’s theme, “Silver Screen Berries,” which is based on Hollywood and movies.
Window-decorating contests and the children’s parade will all be movie-themed, Watkins said.
Watkins said the theme, which he created, has a double meaning: the “silver” pays tribute to both Hollywood and to his wife, Lynn, who has supported him through the years.
“Each chairman’s theme is personal,” Watkins said. “My family has always loved going to the theater and watching movies.”
Other than this year’s theme, the festival will be similar to previous years. Watkins said the biggest new addition to the festival is a free charging station provided by Upper Valley Career Center.
Additionally, several bands will be performing at this year’s festival. Watkins said he’s most excited about Morgan Alexander, a country singer who will perform on the levee at 7 p.m. Friday, and Exploit, an ’80s cover band that will perform at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The chairman said his favorite part about the festival remains the same regardless of the theme or the performers.
“I’m always most excited to see the whole community come out and have a good time,” he said. “Troy has always been about community and family, and to kick summer off with the best festival around, I can’t think of a better way to do it.”
