Ingle Road victim identified

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Sheriff’s Office announced the identity of Tuesday’s fatal accident on Ingle Road on Thursday morning.

According to a press release, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has positively identified the crash victim as Jaret D. Vanhoose, age 18, of Covington.

“We extend our sympathies to family and friends,” the press release stated.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the cause of the single car accident in the 7200 block of Ingle Road, Covington. Vanhoose’s identity was confirmed by dental records.

The incident occurred at 1:57 p.m. Tuesday when deputies responded to a report of an SUV that struck a fence and then a tree and caught on fire.

Deputies responded to the scene within 4 minutes of the dispatch call. Deputies attempted to extinguish the fire and extract Vanhoose from the burning vehicle.

Covington EMS personnel pronounced Vanhoose dead at the scene.

A deputy suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation in her attempt to free the victim from the vehicle.

This is the first fatal traffic accident in 2017 in Miami County.

No further information was released in regards to a motorcycle versus a van accident in the 600 block of N. County Road 25-A, Troy, on Wednesday afternoon. The names of the victim and the driver cited for assured clear distance was requested and not available as of press time. The motorcyclist was struck from behind by the van as it slowed for a school bus traveling in the opposite lane. The rider was ejected and transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight at Upper Valley Medical Center.
