PIQUA — The Friends of the Piqua Public Library are excited to host “Pleasing Palate,” the second event of their 2017 Library Lounge Series, In keeping with this year’s theme, “Art Inspired,” the culinary arts will be explored at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in the lobby of the Piqua Library.

Jeff Besecker, chef and owner of The Old Arcana in Arcanum, will present a cooking class and tasting. The Old Arcana is a 38-seat restaurant that serves freshly prepared food from scratch in a charming, historic environment. Chef Besecker uses produce and meat from the fields and farms that surround Arcanum, and as a result his menu changes frequently to reflect the seasons. “To us, the most important thing is that the ingredients we use to prepare our food are real, whole, and minimally processed,” he said.

The Old Arcana has been listed as one of “Ohio’s Best Restaurants” in Ohio Magazine.

Chef Besecker is well-known for his popular cooking classes, and is adept at teaching home cooks about new cuisines. Currently, he is teaching a series of classes at The Old Arcana called “Get Kitchen Confidence.” At the library program, he’ll help the audience do just that, and give tips and tricks for saving time and using fresh ingredients. Samples of his cooking will be available for tasting.

The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited so admission is by ticket only. Tickets can be obtained at the front desk of the library beginning April 12. Many of the Friensd of the Library’s events sell out, so get tickets early.
