PIQUA — Piqua Arts Council is pleased to announce that their annual Dancing with the Piqua Stars event has begun. This year’s event will feature some exciting new changes along with a fresh crop of local celebrity performers.

“Our dance instructors, Rick and Judy Bowerman, needed some time off to spend with their grandchildren and after five years of dedication to this program, we completely understood,” said PAC Executive Director Jordan Knepper. “So we were presented with a few new challenges. The Bowermans gave so much to this program each year, finding someone to take on their role was going to be a real challenge.”

It turns out it wasn’t possible to find one person to replace the dance instructors, so Knepper and the Dancing with the Piqua Stars committee chose instead to find multiple instructors. Each instructor will be teaching a different dance style and working with two couples.

Changing the dance styles and instructors won’t be the only thing different this year. In previous years, each local celebrity was considered the “Star” and they were paired with a “Pro” dancer that had some experience and formal training in ballroom dancing. This year, there will only be Star couples with no Pros.

This year’s star couples are, Angie Ford and John Sloan, Chrissy Latham and Blair Elliot, Melissa and Kirk Nichols, Niki Watson and Todd Voskuhl, and Jared and Justin Younce.

Dancing with the Piqua Stars will be held once again at A Learning Place in Piqua and will take place on April 22. Tickets will go on sale in March.

The Piqua Arts Council’s webpage will be updated shortly and voting for your favorite dancer has already started. Knepper said to pay attention to PAC’s Facebook Page for updates on dancer fundraisers and to join PAC’s email list, which will send out regular updates about how to support your favorite dancer.
