PIQUA — Children 3 and older will want to join a new dance class session taught by Kendra Melvin, beginning Monday, Jan. 23. The classes will consist of several dance types including ballet mixed with jazz and contemporary dance techniques.
Sessions will be on Mondays from 4:30-5 p.m. and from 5:15-5:45 p.m. Class size is limited so interested participants should call early to register.
You won’t want to miss the Evening Dessert at the YWCA Piqua starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24. Mary Frances Rodriguez will begin the evening with “Creative Hostess Ideas” including themes, menus, gifts and anything else you need to plan a fun event.
The evening will conclude with the unveiling of the 2017 YWCA trips by Beth Royer-DeLong, YWCA program director.
“This evening is always a fun and exciting night,” said Cheryl Hepner, YWCA Membership Committee chairperson. “Mary Frances has a knack for planning special events for every age group. She will give you lots of ideas to get started. Beth has also planned great bus trips for 2017 with the YWCA that you won’t want to miss.”
Reservations must be made by Monday, Jan. 23, with a cost of $3 per person. YWCA membership is not needed. The YWCA is handicapped- accessible.
Meet with area artist Dennis Walker to create your own original paperweight from molten glass. Sponsored by the YWCA Piqua, the class will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, at Walker’s studio at 446 Weber St., Piqua.
Participants will select their own colors to make a three-inch, heart-shaped piece. Each student will have individualized instruction while the others observe.
“Walker is a well-known artist and has had displays for Piqua’s Taste of the Arts and other area events,” said Royer-DeLong. “He is amazing in the glass work that he creates and designs. We are so fortunate to be able to offer this class to community members.”
Space is limited; registration and fees are due by Wednesday, Jan. 25, to ensure a place in the class.
