STAUNTON TOWNSHIP – A single vehicle crash on Piqua-Troy Road sent one man to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
Medics from the Troy Fire Department along with Miami County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 3000 block of Piqua-Troy Road around 4:15 p.m. on the report of a crash.
Authorities arrived to discover a Chevrolet Tahoe on its side, with wires and a power pole down, along with more than one hundred feet of fencing and posts.
The driver of the vehicle was southbound on Piqua-Troy Road when he lost control on a curve, left the roadway, snapped a large utility pole after striking it head-on, then continued off the road, rolling the vehicle and striking a tree. He was able to remove himself from the wreckage.
Troy paramedics began treating his injuries, which do not appear to be life-threatening, before transporting him to Upper Valley Medical Center.
Dayton Power and Light was called to the scene to replace a large utility pole and repair power lines.
Piqua-Troy Road was shut down to traffic in both directions during repairs.
Initial reports from deputies indicate that speed and weather conditions may be been contributing factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
