Volunteerism earns grant for organization

PIQUA — Allstate agency owner Thomas Walter, along with another volunteer, helped give a $1,000 grant to Mainstreet Piqua with their volunteer hours.

Walter received the Agency Hands in the Community Award for Walter Agencies, Inc. staff’s commitment to helping others. The award came with a $1000 grant from the Allstate Foundation for Mainstreet Piqua, where Walter and his staff volunteer.

“This is a fabulous grant,” Lorna Swisher, executive director of Mainstreet Piqua, said. “We have been fortunate to receive it years past, and the really great thing about it is it’s not for a specific part of the organization, so we can use it where we believe it would have the most value.”

“Commitment to our communities is a natural extension of what we do every day — protecting people and making their lives more secure” said Walter. “With support from The Allstate Foundation, Walter Agencies, Inc. and Mainstreet Piqua are making our hometown a better, safer place to live.”

Swisher noted that it was Walter and his employee, Gale Willcox, who helped volunteer at Mainstreet Piqua and turn those volunteer hours into a financial resource after receiving the Agency Hands in the Community Award.

“Gale is the chair of our annual Christmas on the Green celebration,” Swisher said. “We appreciate them. We appreciate Tom Walter’s Allstate … unrestricted funds are really needed.”

The Allstate Foundation awards over $1 million each year to nonprofit organizations across the country in honor of Allstate agency owners who give back. To be eligible for nomination, Allstate agency owners must volunteer, mentor, or lead a nonprofit of their choice.

Established in 1952, the Allstate Foundation is an independent, charitable organization made possible by subsidiaries of the Allstate Corporation. According to their press release, the Allstate Foundation brings the resources of Allstate to support solutions that enhance people’s well-being and prosperity through partnerships with nonprofit organizations.
