MIAMI COUNTY — A Piqua man was sentenced Tuesday in connection with a robbery that took place at the Sunset Drive Thru in Piqua in January.

Donald L. Julian, 32, was sentenced to serve nine months in prison for third-degree felony robbery in Miami County Common Pleas Court. Julian will then have to complete three years of mandatory post-release control.

Julian’s car reportedly was the getaway vehicle after a different man, Jesse L. Guerra, brandished what appeared to be a firearm at the office of the Sunset Drive Thru and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, according to previous court reports.

Search warrants executed at each of their residences after the incident reportedly uncovered clothing similar to what the robber wore, cash, syringes, and a baggy of suspected heroin at one residence and a black air soft handgun at the other residence.

Guerra, 41, of Piqua, was arrested for first-degree felony robbery in connection with that incident. Earlier this year, he was sentenced to 36 months, or three years, in prison for robbing the business.

In other news:

A Piqua resident was found in possession of suspected cocaine while driving through Covington on Christmas Eve.

Timothy D. Jones, 46, of Piqua, was charged with fifth-degree felony possession of drugs, fourth-degree misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, and minor misdemeanor possession of drugs in connection with this incident. Jones was also charged with OVI.

According to Miami County Municipal Court records, Jones reportedly ran a red light at 1:40 a.m. on Saturday when a Covington police officer conducted a traffic stop on him. Jones had a suspended driver’s license and reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol. The officer also recovered suspected cocaine, marijuana, scales, and baggies from Jones’s person.

Jones was incarcerated at the Miami County Jail after the incident. was arraigned Tuesday morning and is continuing to be held at the jail on $5,000 bond. A preliminary hearing for Jones was scheduled for Jan. 5.
