PIQUA — A local church is reaching out to the community to offer anyone alone or in need a place to come for a Christmas meal this Sunday.
Greene Street United Methodist Church, located at 415 W. Greene St., is offering a worship gathering at 10:30 a.m. on Christmas, Dec. 25, and a free meal immediately following the service. The meal will be served at approximately 11:30 a.m.
“We have a food pantry here at the church, and we were inspired by the idea that there are families and people in the community that may not have a family to sit with at Christmas,” Pastor Christina Miller said, adding that there also may be people in need who may not have access to a hot meal. “And we wanted to extend that to our community.”
Everyone in the public is invited to the worship gathering and/or the free Christmas meal. The meal will feature ham with a variety of side dishes and desserts.
“This is first time that we’ve done anything like this,” Miller said. “We want the people in our community to understand that there are people who love them and appreciate them. We also want to them to understand that Greene Street United Methodist Church is a place of acceptance and friendship.”
