TIPP CITY — A theft suspect who fled from a traffic stop near Tipp City, leading to a large manhunt, was caught Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, fled on foot near I-75 and Ginghamsburg Road around 1:45 p.m. He was taken into custody around 4:15 p.m. after residents reported seeing a person matching the suspect’s description was spotted walking on Winding Way.
He was spotted early-on by officers but managed to enter a large wooded area in the vicinity of Deer Cliff Village.
In addition to Tipp City police, Miami County Sheriff’s Deputies, Butler Township and Vandalia Police, along with Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, including a K-9, set up a perimeter and searched an area from Tipp-Cowlesville Road to County Road 25-A.
Tipp City Schools were advised to delay dropping students who lived near the area until an all-clear was given and residents were told to stay indoors with doors locked.
The perimeter had been lifted when, around 4 p.m., several residents called Miami County 911 to report seeing the suspect walking in the area of Winding Way. A new perimeter was quickly established and officers began a foot pursuit.
