WEST MILTON — A car struck a pedestrian killing a woman and a dog Sunday evening.
According to West Milton Police Department Chief Harry Busse, a vehicle was southbound on South Miami Street near Sunset Cleaners and the Shell gas station in West Milton around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when a vehicle struck a female pedestrian and her dog, killing both.
The driver of the vehicle, a West Milton police officer who had just went off duty and was driving home, was shaken, but unhurt, Busse said. The driver is not being identified at this time, according to Busse.
The woman was not crossing at a crosswalk, he said.
Busse asked the Piqua post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol to take over the investigation for their reconstruction team’s help and since it was a West Milton police officer involved in the fatality.
The West Milton Fire Department responded to scene and provided assistance and traffic control.
CareFlight was put on standby, but called off when it was found that the woman was deceased at the scene of the accident.
Miami Street, also State Route 48, was closed for several hours as crash reconstructionists from the Ohio State Highway Patrol completed their investigation.
The woman, whose name is not being released pending notification of her family, was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office, Busse said.
The investigation into the accident continues.
