PIQUA — Gift of Adoption is celebrating National Adoption Awareness Month by hosting adoption awareness events in 30 U.S. cities across the country. Piqua will be among the 30 communities hosting an event, which will raise awareness and funds to make more adoptions possible for children in need being adopted into Ohio families.

The Piqua event will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the Miami Valley Centre Mall, and will include a one-mile walk to represent the final mile in a child’s adoption journey. The walk will start and end at Charley’s Philly Steaks in the mall. Gift of Adoption invites those touched by adoption and all who care about improving the lives of children.

Following the walk, guests will gather at Charley’s Philly Steaks for a community celebration to celebrate local families and volunteers who are committed to uniting more children with a forever family. The York family of Russia, Ohio, who recently turned to Gift of Adoption to complete the adoption of their 8-year old son from China, will attend the event and share more on the impact adoption has had on their lives.

Since 1996, Gift of Adoption has awarded more than $5.4 million to help unite 1,825 children with a family of their own, including awarding $280,000 in grants to fund adoptions for 83 children adopted into families in Ohio.

“Gift of Adoption gives vulnerable children who need families a permanent home and a chance to thrive,” said Gift of Adoption CEO Pam Devereux. “We’re extremely proud to celebrate Gift of Adoption donors and volunteers who represent the final mile in a child’s adoption journey. Their support directly translates to more children in families.”

Jockey International’s Jockey Being Family Foundation will also donate personalized backpacks filled with gifts to children attending the event who were adopted through Gift of Adoption’s efforts. The Jockey Being Family Foundation was created to strengthen adoptive families through post-adoptive services by supporting adoption-related non-profit organizations.
