Shoplifters elude law enforcement

Tan Ford Taurus fled county after incident

MIAMI COUNTY — Local law enforcement agencies are seeking information relating to a high-speed chase on Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday, the pursuit began at the Troy Wal-mart around 4:50 p.m. Two white males allegedly stole two shopping carts full of items and fled through the fire exit and into the vehicle, a tan Ford Taurus.

The license plate of the vehicle is believed to be GPJ-9817, according to police.

One white male had blonde hair the other white male is believed to be in his 50s, according to reports.

Sheriff’s deputies attempted to intersect the vehicle, which was last spotted by a Potsdam resident leaving Miami County on State Route 721 near State Route 49.

Miami County Sheriff’s Office deputies pursued the alleged shoplifters in a high-speed chase through Troy, the village of Laura and Union Township. According to radio traffic, speeds reached up to 90 miles per hour. The vehicle traveled through the village of Laura where it allegedly almost hit another vehicle head-on trying to elude officers.
