Adult Faith Formation Commission pilgrimage

PIQUA — As part of the Jubilee Year of Mercy — Dec. 8, 2015 through Nov. 20, 2016, called by Pope Francis — St. Boniface/St. Mary Parishes Adult Faith Formation Commission has organized three pilgrimages to designated sites in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Each site has a designated “Holy Door of Mercy.”

The tradition of pilgrimages date back to early times for many different religions. A pilgrimage is a journey or search of moral or spiritual significance. Typically, it is a journey to a shrine or other location of importance to a person’s beliefs and faith. For the early Christians, pilgrimages were made to the Holy Land or to a site associated with early saints and martyrs.

On June 26, pilgrims from Piqua traveled to Holy Angels Catholic Church in Sidney to pray and enter the designated Holy Door of Mercy. From there, they traveled on to the Shrine of the Holy Relics in Maria Stein to pray and enter the Holy Door to the relic shrine.

The next pilgrimage is scheduled for Sunday, July 24, to St. Helen Catholic Church in Dayton. The third and final pilgrimage will be the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains in Cincinnati on Sunday, Aug. 21. Each pilgrimage will start from St. Mary Catholic Church 528 Broadway, at 1 p.m. All are invited to carpool with fellow pilgrims or to meet at the site. For further information or questions, call the parish offices (937) 773-1327 or (937) 773-1656.
