Civic band sets Thursday performance

PIQUA — The Piqua Civic Band will present “Young at Heart,” a concert for the child in everyone at 7 p.m. at Hance Pavilion, Fountain Park.

Bring the entire family for an evening of music from the movies of Walt Disney and other fun surprises. Patrick Woods will be the band’s trumpet soloist for “Beauty and the Beast.”

Selections will include items from “The Lion King,” “The Whistler and His Dog,” “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “The Waltzing Cat,” and more. The concerts are free and open to the public.

Woods holds a bachelor’s degree in music in Trumpet Performance from Wright State University and a master’s degree in music in Trumpet Performance from The University of Alabama. He has performed with orchestras throughout the U.S. and Japan and is a founding member of the Capstone Brass Quintet. While at Alabama, he was an instructor of the “Million Dollar” Marching Band.

He now serves as the director of bands at Northridge High School in Dayton.
