PIQUA — If you’re seeking senior citizens resources and services, need a health screening or are in search of a job in the health care field, the upcoming Health & Career Fair could be your best bet to find what you’re looking for.

Courtesy of a partnership between Upper Valley Career Center and Serving Our Seniors, a local networking group, the Health & Career Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, in the UVCC Health Science Center. The fair is free and open to the public.

This is the first year for this event, but the partners hope to be able to offer it as an annual event,” according to Liz Carroll, sales manager for Brookdale Piqua, who also belongs to Serving Our Seniors.

“The partnership with UVCC actually came about because I and someone from UVCC, Naomi Baker, both serve on another non-profit board together and we discussed holding a Health/Career Fair that would be mutually beneficial since businesses in the healthcare industry are always searching for new staff and the UVCC has wonderful programs for med Tech, STNA and LPN’s,” Carroll said.

“We also thought that seniors in the area would benefit from having the opportunity to learn about services that are available to them in one location.”

Visitors can speak with local vendors and organizations to learn about resources available for seniors. Also, employers will be on hand to discuss health care job openings.

Vendors and companies searching for new employees include but are not limited to: Brookdale Senior Living (Greenville, Troy and Piqua locations); American Nursing Care; Genesis Troy Center; Comfort Keepers; Heartland Health Care Centers (Greenville and Piqua locations as well as Brookdale Hospice and Home Health); Piqua Manor; Wilson Health; Reid Hospital;

Alzheimer’s Association; Dorothy Love; Rest Haven; Pristine Senior Living; Springmeade;

The Pavilion; Ohio’s Hospice of the Miami County; Versailles Health Care Center; State of the Heart Hospice; Horizon Home Health; and Catholic Social Services.

“We have over 30 vendors scheduled to be at the event. We are still accepting registrations from vendors who would like to be involved,” Carroll noted. “They can reach out to me, but we have very limited space available.”

There also will be health screenings provided by Wilson Hospital, in addition to healthy snacks and a chance to win door prizes.
